i have a hp laptop model n5150 and it stop charging. it works when i plugg in the charger and turn it on but it does not charge and just says 0% charge when it is plugged in. is this a problem with my battery. is there a way to fix it or not!

Try troubleshooting on the laptop itself 1st.. If that doesn't work then it's sounding like you need a new battery for sure. You can get one for a low price from a site like http://www.needbattery.com

if your useing windows vista then click on the little picutre of the battery in the lower right corner and click power save if your not if you have a dv1000 dv4000 dv5000 v2000 v4000 v5000 dv2000 dv6000 v3000 or v6000 you can get a 12 cell battery which lasts twice as long probaly more because yours might jsut be old

Should I get rid of the old battery since it's "nearing the end of its usable life," or should I keep it around for backup? Contrary to popular belief, Lithium Ion batteries are not subject to "Memory" like the older Ni-Cad batteries were. So there is no need to discharge them fully on a regular basis.

In fact, that will actually reduce the lifespan of the battery.

To prolong the life of the battery, charge it fully and then remove it from the laptop if you are plugged into the wall. Heat is a major factor in the lifespan of the battery, and being stuck inside a laptop that is constantly producing heat is the reason so many laptop batteries have a life of 10 minutes.

Keep it in a cool place, inside the laptop bag is fine.

Ni-Cad and nickel metal hydride both lose charge over time.

Lithium base cells do not have this problem. They will lose charge, but very slowly. The worst you can do is store them at full charge, or at zero charge.

Charge the spare up to 60% to 70% and it should be good for a year or so.

I need to send my laptop in for repairs because the ac power cord won't stay plugged in. My current battery is completely void of charge, so I'm not able to power up my laptop. Therefore I can't backup my data prior to sending in my laptop. I would like to purchase a new battery so that I can perform the necessary backups. I can only do this if the new battery comes already charged.

Laptop batteries do not come charged. Some stores can backup your data for you before sending it out for repair. I believe Comp USA does it for a fee.

Ive got an old Mac Powerbook G4, and ive noticed lately that the battery continues to drain even when its plugged in while im using it. When i stop using it the battery charges back up. Can you have to many accessories plugged into a laptop so that the battery on it will drain even when the computer is plugged in?

I currently have 5 external hard drives connected (3 of which drawing from their own power cords) my iphone and my ipod.

It's hard to make sense of it. If you remove the battery, does the computer shuts down?

I guess I would charge the battery completely, then remove the battery and keep the laptop plugged in and only put the battery back in when you need to move.

I'm using a IBM Thinkpad T40 laptop, and my battery dries up pretty quickly in less than maybe half an hour when it is unplugged.

I doubt that normal batteries would last this short.

What is the cause of this short battery life span?

Is it because i usually left my laptop charged/plugged-in the whole day even if its at 100%? Is that the reason my laptop couldn't last itself without the adapter?

Boy that would mount up my electricity bill.

Yes streaming videos and playing games while the laptop is unplugged will definitely drain the battery faster!

Most laptops can run for at least 1 hr off just the battery. However there are many other factors to consider.

1. What level of energy savings are you using when you disconnect from the wall?
(In XP: Start->ControlPanels->Power Options)
Set the Power schemes to Portable, then select settings that will turn off your HD at a certain time if what you typically do is done in memory.

2. Lower the brightness on your LCD. The brighter the LCD screen, the faster you'll drain the battery. Setting it to 1/2 the max brightness will easily give you 15-30 minutes more.

3. If you are not connecting to the internet via a wireless, turn the wireless off.

Like anything in life, the more you use, the faster it will be used up. If you conserve, you can make the battery last longer. However most typical laptop batteries will last between 1-3hours depending again on use.

Pretty much daily I use my laptop until the battery runs completely out and it turns it self off, is this bad for the battery/laptop?

i hope not because i do the same all the time.....lol.
